Hey yall.

I am having some trouble with either my new holosight or my 24 yo eyes.

I just bought a Bushnell holosight for my ar and when I look through it with my right eye its REALLY fuzzy. fuzzy to the point that I don't know if I can shoot it proper.
When I look through it with my left eye its clear as day.

I've never experienced this with any other scope. I am near sighted in my right eye but I can see and shoot with any other scope I've ever tried perfectly.

Any advice? could it be a defective sight?

Try looking at it like a "Heads Up Display" with BOTH eyes!

Since it changes when you change eyes, I am guessing it is your right eye. Have one of your buddies check the sight out. If it looks OK to him, that would pretty much verify the sight is OK. I think most holographic sights do not provide magnification, or only a little. 'Regular' scopes do, which may be enough to compensate for your myopic right eye. I am myopic in both eyes, and I know binoculars provide enough magnification to clarify my vision -- haven't tried rifle scopes (without my contacts in).

+1 to these points. Since a holosight's reticule is set at optical infinity, it would be like the reticule is placed on the target itself. TexCompDude, how myopic are you in your right eye, exactly? Have you experienced this with any other sights that have no magnification?

well I have a "lazy" eye. my right eye.

I can control it but I have to think about it. I can use either eye independently or together. (I can't really move them in different directions well, but can a bit.

I failed my drivers eye test 2 times until I realized there was a center strip of numbers lol. from that point I just read the left column, then used one of my eyes to read the middle, and then the right.

I think I'm learning to compensate. The more I aim the sight at things the clearer its becoming. I guess my eye is learning to adjust. but idk. its still a bit more fuzzy in my right eye than it should be.

I think its about time to go in for an eye exam lol.

Well, yeah - it IS time for an eye exam. But beyond that, having a lazy eye would definitely cause the blur that you're experiencing. I highly recommend doing eye exercises, like using that holosight, for example. It can actually "strengthen" a lazy eye and could make things better for you in the long run. I feel that the more you use the sight, the better it will become and maybe you'll notice it less and less over time. BTW, I'm an optometrist, so I have a bit of experience with these types of situations.

well I notice that the sight is getting clearer every time I use it. Every time I put it to my eye it gets a little better.

you have no idea how many times my lazy eye has been caught starin at pretty girls. lol.

I guess I'm going to go hunt for an eye doctor soon.

With eyes like yours, you probably ought to consider trading that AR for something a little more forgiving. I have a 12ga. Mossberg with 18 and 28" barrels that I'll be glad to trade you. That way, with the right load, you don't really need to focus for either long or short shots.

Just a thought.

haha, I'm actually in the market for a mossy 500 next lol

but my eyes are weird. with a little practice I will be able to hit anything in front of me, close or far away. I just have to train my eyes.

Or if I really am in a hurry I could just shoot with the opposite eye lol.

This depends on a lot of factors. First, are they over 40? No offense to anyone here who fits in this age group, but loss of focusing ability after 40 is something that you really can't fix by doing exercises. That's just a natural change that comes with age, and people who are trying to reverse things are just postponing the inevitable. It's better just to cope with it and ask an optometrist the options that are available.

For TexCompDude's case, since he has a "lazy eye," and depending on his age, it would be a great idea to put a patch or obstruct his left eye for a couple of hours every day, and to do some reading/computer work, etc. Because amblyopia (the official term for lazy eye) comes about because one eye did not get the necessary visual stimuli during the formative years, you can begin to reverse the effects by only using the weaker eye. The effectiveness depends a lot on age, level of amblyopia, and reasons for the amblyopia. But it's not that difficult and you can look like a pirate to boot.

CompVest, if your students are suffering from eye strain, usually exhibited by tiring of the eyes or a headache that occurs in the forehead or eyebrow region, it could be due to a variety of factors. Let me know what symptoms the ladies are complaining about to prompt their inquiries about eye exercises.

Also, I had no idea that my signature was that tiny. It looks somewhat normal on my PC! I'll try to fix it immediately.
