I can't hear The Battle Hymn of the Republic without thinking of the version my dad taught me as a child. As a descendant of a Confederate general, I was forbidden to sing the original Battle Hymn in school.
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is walking through the cotton where the boll weevils are bored
So come you loyal Rebels and we'll clean the Yankee's gourd
The South shall rise again!
