I know this is a pretty low tech question, but I have been looking for a basic appliance timer to plug my tumbler into to set it to run for a certain number of hours. This would prevent my forgetting it and letting it run for too long and risking burning it up.

I don't really want one of those "turn on and off at certain times" type of timers. I am looking for one that I can just set for 1-3 hours, as an example, and it will just turn off. Kind of like a kitchen timer but with a plug instead of an alarm going off.

Any suggestion on where to get one? I tried home depot and Wal-Mart, but not much else.

Another option would be the holiday isles at Hobby Lobby, Target, etc. They may have some timer options.

They make timers that would serve your purpose and last a lifetime. They aren't cheap. But, they are commonly used in the photo lab industry and lots of those have gone out of business in the past few years. You could probably find a good used one on Ebay or elsewhere.

I really like that one as it appears to have two timed outlets and I could use 2 of my 3 tumblers.

Just a suggestion, but how about you use a regular 24 hour timer like you talked about and have the OFF setting three hours after the ON setting and just leave it like that. Forget about the real time of day. When you want to tumble, plug it in and turn the dial around until it comes on. Three hours later it will turn off. Buda bing, buda bang.

I thought about this the other day, REALLY hard, got a head-ache. Then I remembered a timer I have for the Christmas lights. It's optical, so when it gets dark, it kicks on for a pre-selected time period, 2, 4, 6 or dusk til dawn.

Well, set it for 2 hours, made sure to turn off the lights in the garage, and never had to worry about it. The next morning all was well.

That's exactly what I use. Works like a charm. I just spin it around to on and walk away.
