HR gets one right!

We see plenty of stories about crazy HR people firing people for the silliest gun related things.
I got my new NRA card this week, and I put my old card up in my cube. What can i say, I like the eagle and flag design. I'm goofy that way.
Apparently someone complained to HR. They asked one of my coworkers if I'm waving guns around or talking about shooting anyone. They asked me yesterday, "What's with the NRA Card in your cube?" I told 'em what I said above.
They then told me, "Sorry to bother you, I apparently need to tell someone to grow up."

Yeah, my HR person at the job I got laid off from, told me that my membership scared her. Of course I then kind of exacerbated things by telling her that her attitude scared me.

That is good to hear. I really do not talk about guns at work unless it is hunting related. I can see my self doing what you did, but then I am hardly ever in the office.

As I mentioned in another thread,I will be quitting this week with my anti-gun employer going to work for another employer that is more gun friendly. Dow, my current employer, has an anti-gun policy and any firearm on company property (including parking lots) is grounds for termination. Remember this if you ever consider buying products made by Dow (many products you will never know about, but if it ever comes up it's good to know). I never wanted to mention my employers name in case it ever got back to them, now I'm quitting I do not care. I'm sure there are a lot out there, but what other employers are anti-gun? I would like to keep it in mind when I make my purchases (if possible and there are options/competitors).

Canon, the camera company has or used to have a policy where if you had a CHL, you had to notify HR when you were hired. If they mailed DPS to see, and you didn't tell them, you'd be fired.
This is probably a lot different now that CHL Privacy is the law. I buy Nikon.

Seems like there would be some legal issues with them requiring notification. They ain't the law and you do not have to notify anyone except a police officer who has asked for identification. They can post per 30:06 or put a policy in their employee handbook stating you cannot have a weapon on company property. That would be sufficient to prevent you from brining one to work. To require someone to divulge that they have a CHL is out of line in my opinion.

Out of line, Sure is. Problem is in Texas, an employer can fire you for any reason they want. Keep it concealed, and keep it private.
