I came into this issue a bit skeptical, but I am never one to ignore solid logic, and the arguments have moved me. If you yourself are not yet convinced, simply look at the student sitting closest to you. You may not know him, or his personality, or his criminal record, or what floors of which dorm his ID can access, but wouldn’t you feel much safer as a Vanderbilt student and resident if you knew for a fact he was concealing a gun?

Carolyn Pippen is a senior in the College of Arts and Science. She can be reached at carolyn.m.pippen@vanderbilt.edu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it that everyone we see who sits on the fence in regards to the larger issue of your right to keep and bear arms, wants to "reasonably" know who has a gun and who does not???

The obvious statement being if it is concealed, why does anyone need to know???

And why does it always need to be inferred that it is a male who will always be carrying??? Is it automatically assumed that males should be the only ones carrying a firearm for lawful self-defensive purposes???

I just sent her a long and detailed - but RESPECTFUL - rebuttal by email and invited her to respond. We'll see where it goes from here.

I don't think Ms Pippen really cares to know who is and who isn't carrying a gun. That article is dripping with sarcasm.

Oh quite. I respectfully challenged her critical thinking. No academic can resist such a challenge. It is opium to them.

Of course, when they rise to the challenge, they often become shipwrecked on the rock of logic. That's when they get really surly. I love that. :smilelol5:

Both my parents were Caltech profs, and that's the environment I grew up in. Much fertile ground for the wrecking of poorly captained ships.

Vanderbilt would benefit from teaching the classical trivium as remedial instruction where necessary.

"rlol"

I'm laughing because I just realized how badly I mixed my metaphors! :smilelol5:

I admit to being metaphorically challenged...

I admit to shooting too much from the hip, and let my fingers do too much on this keyboard...

I am extremely glad some others noted the cynisism in her article there...I was sure that is what drove her to write this drivle, and I am just glad you guys saw that as well...
