Varmint Hunting

I wasn't really sure where to post this, so I figured this was as good a spot as any.
After months of trying, I finally got a job that allowed me to move back to Texas. When I moved away, I didn't own any firearms, and had never hunted before. 3 years in Montana changed that. I don't do any big game hunting, the SO is a vegetarian, and I couldn't eat/give away that much meat. So varmint hunting it was. Prairie dog, gopher, rabbit, mag-pie, etc. are my prey of choice. Unfortunately I know nothing of hunting varmint in Texas, especially near Austin, and none of my friends shoot anything smaller then deer.
So here is my plea. Help me find information on where I can hunt, when I can hunt, and how to hunt legally. I have read various materials from Parks and Wildlife, but nothing I've found has been particularly illuminating. Thanks for your help!
