1639 - The Fundamental Orders were adopted in the Connecticut River towns of Windsor, Hartford and Wethersfield. This document is recognized as the first written constitution in North America, and one of the first anywhere.

1952 - NBC's Today Show premiered. It is the third-oldest running TV show in history, behind the CBS Evening News and Meet the Press.
