Ive got a glock 23 and a kel tec p3at. I am now looking for a full size 45, with a 5" barrel and single stack magazine.

I like my current handguns, and one feature they share that I would like the 45 to share is the absence of manual safeties. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? For what its worth, my knowledge of firearms is minimal compared to most on this sight so please discuss in juvenile terms for me

Price isn't a huge factor as long as I get what Im looking for. Every one Ive seen has manual safeties so I pass up on them despite most be very nice handguns.

I see you said single stack so I won't mention the Glock 21...

Read this before you buy and see if the 45 APC lives up to it's reputation. You may just want another KelTec.

Real reputation cannot be hid for ever. JMBs 1911 in .45acp has held its reputation through 2 world wars, numerous others on a smaller global scale, Law Enforcement Departments currently & yrs past, Civilian Carry, Competition, & has saved more American lives in real combat than Gaston G will ever achieve.

.45 is here to stay.
1911 is out of your comfort zone due to external safetys.

Try the Glock 36 "Slimline". I've not shot one but read about them in a Gun Magazine.

I'm right partial to my Springfield XD Service for its thumb safety and it's 4" barrel. The XD Tactical is available with more barrel but it has a double stack mag.

Tell us what you want to do with the pistol. Frankly I sold all my 1911s for Glocks, but it had nothing to do with the thumb safety -that really is just a matter of training and practice as it becomes second nature.

If you like that Glock 23 and now just want a 45acp be sure to try a Glock 21sf or 30sf. The "sf" models just came out and they are pretty much the same as the original 21/30 except the backstrap (butt) is slightly cut down. I have medium size hands and always avoided the double stack 45 Glocks, but these two new models fit my hand remarkably well. I've been shooting the 21sf in IDPA for a few months now and its become my favorite.

If you really want single stack and don't want the 1911 thumb safety then I'd recommend the Sig or Kahr.

The Glock 36 is a very fine weapon. It doesn't have a 5" barrel, but it is very concealable and reliable. If you're a Glock guy, I'd highly recommend giving it a thorough look.

Keep in mind that there's a considerable survival advantage to using guns with only one manual of arms.

Hmmm, I was going to say HK45C but then noticed "no external safety". That pretty much limits eveything except for Glock and Sig.

I'd be cautious of forming an opinion based off of one account, with one type of ammunition.

I also was going to suggest the HK as an option.... just without the safety engaged. Unless of course you're concerned about it somehow becoming engaged when you need to use it.

Why do you want a single stack? Is it because of grip size or thinnest of the pistol?

If it is for grip size I would recommend the M&P 45 even though it is a double stack. I have very small hands and I can shoot it comfortably. I have also carried this it in a OSWB holster with no issues.

Did I mention that it shoots great!

If you're willing to compromise a bit on barrel length, the Kahr CW45 or PM45 would serve your needs nicely.

If you like your Glock, a G21 full-size slim frame would be great. Also take a look at the S&W M&P .45. There are variants with and without mag safeties, and with and without manual safeties. I'm a Ruger fan myself; I have the P95 9mm, and so I would recommend a P345 if you want a cheaper yet totally reliable option.

I am wanting a 5" barrel for accuracy and I want a single stack for slimness.

I guess I could have one with a safety, but I would have to carry it with the safety always off. The handgun, like my others, is for the purposes only of self defense. One less safety, one less chance of the weapon not firing when I need it to.

Just was wanting something like it without the thumb and grip safeties. I guess nothing like that is out there?
