I know this might be a stupid question, and I didn't want to hijack the "carrying a rifle" thread, but I was wondering if it is legal to conceal carry a rifle?

with an appropriate sling, I can totally hide my AR behind my back with a jacket on. It wouldn't be comfortable but If I ever felt the need too would this be legal.

Say I'm going to Houston or something, broke down and had to walk down gang street for some particular reason.

just want to know how far my rights are being violated because I believe I should be able to carry any way I please.

O.K., i asked this exact question in my CC class years ago. I was told by the instructor that there are no state laws regulating the carrying of long arms so you can do whatever you want. However, he also added, if your walking down 5th street in Austin with an AK slung over your shoulder, expect a chat with Austins finest.

I've thought about this from time to time, just because if the car happens to break down while I've got a rifle or shotgun in there, I don't want to leave it there for however long the roadside assistance might take to get there.

OTOH, I've found it much easier to just not go within 100 miles of Houston.

Are there any extra restrictions if its a class 3 weapon? like CC a fully auto MP5 ?

I am just curious...If you had to walk down gang street why would you want to conceal it? I think I would want to have it out so that if the need arises I would be ready.

well since my ar's gone up in value about 500$ since I bought it, I would think its just a big "rob me" sign.

I see where you are coming from and it makes sense. However if I was a thug and saw a dude rolling down the street with an AR I would think twice about robbing him but then again Im not a thug.

I'm actually thinking about keeping my AR in a hard guitar case full time. That way no one knows i've got it or that I'm transporting it.

This is true thug and smart arent two that go hand in hand. I think thats a good idea with the guitar case...kinda like a modern tommy gun/violin case combo.

yea, but I also just realized a guitar in the back seat of my car is just as likely to be stolen as a gun lol.

but at least I can walk around with it and people will just think I'm "artistic."

there isnt a law against carrying a long gun but you can be charged with something lesser like public consternation (sp?), but there isnt specifically a firearm offense for it

I keep an 18" 12 gauge in Fender Tele gig bag in open view in one corner in the bedroom. No one gives it a second look. I have living room guitars and bedroom guitars, etc., besides the acoustics around on stands.

Umbrella chair bags also work pretty well assuming your long arm will fit and nobody will pay you much attention. AK folder with a 10 round mag carries well enough. Ones made out of darker heavier fabric are best. Camo breaks up any outlines well.

Guitar cases, baseball bags, etc. (maybe even the above linked bag) tend to be enticing to those that may want to relive you of them, either in your car or on your person. I wouldn't figure a BG would bust into your car for an umbrella chair...but maybe they would?

I'd like to find one that has a pocket or two on it. I may just have to break out the sewing machine and make a TUCB (Tachtical Umbrella Chair Bag)
