1961 - Outgoing President Dwight Eisenhower gave his famous "military-industrial complex" speech.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

1966 - A U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber carrying hydrogen bombs crashed in the Mediterranian Sea off the coast of Spain, creating quite a mess.

1997 - Convicted murderer Gary Gilmore was executed by firing squad in Utah, the first execution since the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional as administered in 1987.
