Cabela's gripe

I went to the Cabela's in Buda today and was pretty disappointed with the service. After my number was called I selected the gun I wanted and went through w/ the paper work as normal. Then I had to stand in line for what seemed an eternity. It's not that there was a huge queue in front of me -- I was # 2 in line. The employees just seemed to be not taking care of the customers. By the time the check out line started getting served it had built up half way down the gun department.
On a side note, others had previously mentioned the ammo shelves being bare. That was not the case when I went. Everything seemed well supplied on my visit.
Oh, and I got a new Tarus sub compact .40

Hopefully they just had a bad batch of clerks today. It always seems like a long time especially when you have a "new toy" to try out.
It's good news that the ammo supply is up. I think we'll be seeing a lot of the 'till everything levels out.
Betcha' can't wait to bust some caps !
Happy shootin'

I went to the Bass Pro yesterday and usually they are pretty well stocked up on ammo, not this day! I bought what I could and the customer service at the register was painfully slow and there was only one guy in front of me. I say bring back the mom and pop gunshops. We used to have on called the Powder Keg in Sachse but he is no longer there. Sure do miss those places where they knew u by name. I think in all customer service everywhere has gone to the dawgs.

Hmmmmmm, mom and pop gunshops???
With the way the dynamics of gun ownership, purchasing and use are under the potential attack in the near future...
Those are going by the way of the Dodo bird it seems...
At least it is going to be interesting to see what actually happens...

Thats just the way it is at the Big Box Store places like Cabela's, Wal-Mart, Academy, or BassPro.
Lots and lots of people wanting to see/handle/buy guns.
Ammo is a hit or miss situation. Some stores have it some don't. Next week its reversed.
The gun and ammo market has gone bonkers in the last few months.

Those mom & pop shops are still there, and shame on us if we don't patronize them. There is a good shop in Bedford TX that I've been in a few times and never bought anything, though the proprietor was really nice and seemed knowledgeable, and eager to help. I confess I've been to Cabela's many times and bought lots of stuff there. My new year's resolution is to try to spend my money at the independent instead of the big guys.
I'm in the auto parts business and the same thing happens there. It's just too easy to stop at AutoZone or O'Reilly, when there's a good independent just down the street that can treat you as well or better, and also contributes to the community.

My Cabela's gripe - they lost business because of it:
My wife and I went to the Cabela's in Fort Worth (170 & I-35W) yesterday. We looked at a few guns for her, she wasn't impressed with the service - sure, they were busy, but other folks seemed to get preferential treatment...oh well.
My main reason for going there was to check out and purchase (if I liked it) an IWB holster for my Kimber. I don't currently own an IWB holster so I wanted to check a few out, do a test fit on me (with one of Cabela's guns), etc. Found one I liked, went up to the gun counter and asked the guy working it if I could see a Kimber 4" to test one of their holsters, which I had already put on. The employee told me I needed to hand the holster to him - which I did while asking "Why...?"
He proceeds to put the Kimber in the holster and says, "Yeah, it fits."
Me: "I'm not concerned about that, I want to make sure the holster and the gun comfortably fit me."
Him: "Sorry, you can't do that, it's store policy, my security people would freak out..."
Me: "Let me get this straight, don't take this as being argumentative, but you expect me to buy that without being able to try it on first - the way it is meant to be used? Would you buy a car without test driving it?"
Him: "Yeah, I buy all of my holsters on the internet."
Me: "No thanks, you can keep it."
Wife and I left - won't be doing any more shopping/business at Cabela's.
Oh, I should mention that I saw a customer who was looking at a gun put it in the small of his back to test it out...and the "freaking out security people" never appeared.

One of the greatest benefits of retirement is not having to shop on the weekends with the madding crowds. OTOH, not having any money with which to shop during the week kinda' cramps one's style.

I was at Cabela's once, saw their ammo prices, and have never gone back.

I noticed the high prices too. I have been back, never bought anything there, but the store is a blast to wonder around in. I spent 4 hours wondering around that place the first time I went. I should probably buy something there to pay them back for the cool environment. I like to hang out at the aquarium and the stuffed game animal areas.

I understand completely, I do not shop there any longer. Check out crossbreedholsters.com, they have a great supertuck IWB holster that is fantastic and Mark provided the best CS around. They are custom made for your gun and have a lifetime warranty. If you do not like the way it feels, they buy it back. Good luck in your search.
