I think the most appropriate route would be to complain to the moderators there.
The seller, while expressing an opinion, is using outrageous scare tactics to justify his outlandish price.
I don't see the laminated, thumbhole stock being worth an extra $700 over the price of my 917VS.

I don't see where he actually violated any of their rules, but I am still going to contact them.

yeah...looks like there are people on it...
I didn't see his other outrageous auctions, so I thought it was legit with some rare rifle and they were going to ban that ammo.

Or you could just pass on the "deal" if you don't like it.
He has as much right to ask $1000 for his Marlin .17 HMR as people who ask $500+ for an AK or $1500+ for an AR15. Or the people who post trying to sell their used pistol for a higher price than a new one from AJC or Academy.

I think there are quite a few people here that whose gun collections would be conciderably smaller if they didn't hope the value of said guns wouldn't increase.

IMO that site is just crazy. Prices on there are absurd.
They can ask whatever price they want.
If some wants to pay that much so be it. I won't.

Between November and December, I sold 6 rifles from my personal collection for much more than I paid for them. I purchased all of them within the past year. For example....Romy AK...750....Yugo UF AK..830.... Yugo Fixed Stock...860....Sig 556 Rifle...SWAT model....2325.....Polytech Legend National Match...2739...S&W AR15 OR model...1375.
Prices on "ugly" guns have gone crazy...I am not surprised by any price i see these days. If folks are willing to pay the prices, you shouldn't fault the guy who is willing to sell the rifle.
