The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston will reopen tomorrow, January 31, at 9 a.m.

Their collection of airplanes contains some that are unique in the world. If you haven't seen it, it is well worth the trip.

The museum is between Moody Gardens and the airport. The address is 2002 Terminal Drive, Galveston. Just follow the signs from 61st Street to Moody Gardens. You'll find it.

The web site is not up to date: http://lsfm.org/aircraftgallery.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I agree with Jim. It is time well spent. They truly have some amazing displays there.

They're working on Sea Wolf Park, but I haven't seen a schedule for when it will reopen.

Here is a page about the Cavalla is that is updated sporadically: http://www.cavalla244.org/IkeRecoveryPlan.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This page appears as white-on-white text in some browsers. Drag the cursor over it to make the text visible.

That is wonderful news! I was not sure that it was going to be reopened. I was over at the airport last week and the place still looked abandoned.

I took my daughter there a couple of months before the storm (I had visited many times previous) and we have some wonderful pictures and memories. We even got her a set of dog tags :smilelol5:

The museum there is fascinating.

There was no doubt in my mind that the Lone Star Flight Museum would reopen. The volunteers are dedicated and the organization has some big names behind it.

I'm still concerned that some of the planes and displays may have suffered irreparable damage. The airworthy craft were flown away before Ike, but many planes there were not functional.

I still need to make it over there. My dad flew the B-58 (as a bombardier/navigator on alert with SAC) before I was born, and I've always been fascinated with the plane. In an interesting coincidence, my brother married a woman whose father was a B-58 pilot on the same base, wing, and time period as my dad. The museum has a training model on display.

I've still got a coffee mug that flew aboard one of the planes on a high-speed run. It's inscribed stating that it was flown at Mach2+ aboard a B-58 Hustler.

Perhaps I can take a tour when I'm down in Houston in a couple of weeks.

I would like to see that. Have a cousin who was a Hustler pilot. Will have to check it out next time I am down in Houston! :thumbs2:

They don't have a B-58 in Galveston. NcongruNt cribbed that photo from Wikipedia.

The Lone Star Flight Museum does have an airworthy B-17, though.

Well shucks. That's OK; will still have to get there when I am down for the balloon festival in October! :thumbs2:

If anyone coming to Galveston wants to meet up with me, send a PM.

Some people here can attest that I am not as mean as I am ugly. ;-)

Did it leave? I remember that there was one there last I checked on it a while back.

They've got it in their gallery:

EDIT: It's also on the aircraft status list under VISITING AIRCRAFT ON DISPLAY:

I did an audio-visual project for the Lone Star Flight Museum in 1998. I don't recall that they had that big a bomber, or maybe they got it later.

It looks like the web site is more up-to-date now than when I posted the original message in this thread.
