A golf course I play often has a "51%" sign in the bar area. I believe the bar is part of the golf course and the golf course certainly does not derive >51% of their revenue from on premise sale of alcohol. I haven't researched this with TABC, so I'm not sure what sort of license they have. This has confused me for some time, even to the point of wondering if the license the bar has is the '51%" kind, does it extend to the entire golf course itself since the beverage cart employees get their beer from the bar and are presumably selling/serving it on the course. Maybe I've over analyzing this....

I'm assuming it's an incorrect posting, but I've not inquired with the management.....

There's a 51% sign on the entrance to the clubhouse at my local club. Good question as to whether that extends to the whole course or not. Guess I should find that out before I head out to play another round.

In fairness, wouldn't a holster mess up your golf swing? Or have you invented a new excuse for that bad putt? "Yea, I would have eagled that hole if my new cross draw holster hadn't overbalanced my 3 iron shot..."

I'm trying for the same score when bowling and golfing.....Not sure how I carry would impact my swing.

I actually pocket carry a Kahr PM-40. Doesn't really impact my swing.

What's the best way to get an answer out of TABC on this? I tried to do a 'public inquiry' using their systems, but it didn't really work. I sent an email to one of the contact emails that looked useful.

Also, what class of TABC license is what i should be looking for? My question remains though that if the license (if it is in fact the 51% kind) is for the Golf Course -- not the beverage vendor -- does that make the entire premises off limits while carrying? that seems absurd to me, but I'm trying to be legal here.

Luckily my golf bag has plenty of pockets to store a pistol. My golf game suffers enough without having to actually carry the gun on me.

In my experienc the pro shop and club house/restaraunt/bar are often ran under separate entities/corporations. Just my understanding. So the 51% should just cover the establishment of the club house. Again, just my understanding....which could be wrong.

It depends on how the license was drawn up. You will have to check with TABC for a difinitive answer.

I actually called TABC, and they:

1) told me on the phone the sign was wrong

2) said they'd call the place (which they did within about 20 minutes). I know this because i am friends with one of the employees there, and he told me they got a call and were directed to take the 51% sign down.

3) Received new signs -- which are now posted. I played there today.

You can always play the .38 iron...
