Didn't realize many places were still doing this. A big waste of taxpayer money. I'd be willing to give them a few clunkers though. Would use the money to buy more accessories for my AR or something.

Richland County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Chris Cowan says there has already been a great turnout at one Columbia location and deputies have seized about 75 guns in the first 90 minutes.

I think this one word from the article sums up the official attitude pretty succinctly.

I just wonder if the LEO used the word "seized" or if it was chosen by the reporter. SC is a pretty gun friendly state or used to be 20 years ago when we lived there. It's the only place I know of where you can road hunt for deer with dogs. Imagine that you're driving down a country road and come around a curve to find yourself staring up the barrel of some Bubba's 30 some-odd waiting for his dogs to chase a deer across the road. That to me is not only scary, it borders on ignorant or stupid or something.

Probably allot of junker guns and stolen guns. I can't imagine anyone taking a gun down there that they actually paid good money for. You could always sell it on the street for more than 50 or 100 bucks.

From what I read, this isn't an attempt to get guns off the streets to prevent criminal acts because there is no amnesty for the gun owners for bringing in a stolen gun etc. To me this is no more than a cover up for disarming people of their firearms. Yes it would be convenient to take in an old broken junker but I doubt that was the majority of the guns brought in. I bet it was mostly people who needed the quick money so they took their guns in. I can't support these types of events where the objective is to disarm and destroy.

Perhaps people that are willing to participate in such a program are better off disarmed.
