Buffalo Wild Wings (Plano) Anti-gun!

My wife and I like to go eat there, because the food is good and cheap.

We went there yesterday, and were greeted by a non-compliant sign that read:
"Buffalo Wild Wings BANS GUNS on the premises"

I handed the manager a "no guns = no money" card and he was pretty rude about it.
"I'm sorry I have to lose your business OVER A SIGN." he said. He also claimed it was a corporate edict; though I've never seen the sign at another location in Irving that I've also eaten at.

Before I contact Corporate (and encourage others to) I'm curious if anyone else has seen these signs at any other locations?

My wife is LIVID with me right now because I refuse to eat there now; and she loves the wings with the Asian zing sauce.

EDIT: Apparently it IS corporate, as I found a thread from THR back in 2004 about this. I wrote them the following in insane hope:
My wife and I have been visiting your establishment in Plano, driving 15 miles each way from where we live to visit.
That is, until this location posted a sign that I noticed for the first time on Monday. The sign read, "Buffalo Wild Wings bans guns on these premises."
While it is your right as a business and property owner to set this policy, because of it, my wife and I will no longer be visiting until you reverse this policy.

I realize on the surface that you might feel the policy to be a good one, but I want to bring a few things to your attention:

First of all, anyone wanting to do harm to patrons of your restaurant will ignore this sign.
Second, in the state of Texas, every licensed concealed carry holder:
* Has NO felony convictions on their record EVER in their lives.
* Has NO Class A or B misdemeanors on their record for the past 5 years.
* They have passed a rigorous state and FBI Background check
* Has NO chemical dependency or drug issues.

Many other states have very similar requirements.
I'd think any business would want to welcome good, upstanding people. People legally carrying guns in your restaurants are the most law abiding citizens; and this has been proven in the state of Texas as well as other states.

In closing, I look forward to you re-evaluating this policy. I will miss eating at your establishment until this policy is reversed. I'll also be letting many others know about your policy via internet forums.

Thanks for your time.

I think it would be a very BAD idea to contact them for a non-complaint sign. If the sign isn't valid then ignore it! By contacting them you are alerting BWW to the fact that they have a non-compliant sign which may cause they to post a complaint sign, then we have a real issue. I think there are bigger more important battles to fight.

I'm not letting them know it's not compliant; I do agree with you on this though.

Even the small battles are important. Let them think about whether they really want to ban a small percentage of their customers with a large ugly sign, and if they decide the answer is yes then they should lose our business.

I would have ignored the sign and walked on in. If, and only if, they posted a compliant sign would I waste my time on handing the manager a "no guns = no money" card. By handing them the card and having the confrontation with the mgr, you may have alerted them to the fact that their sign is non-compliant, causing them to post a compliant sign.

My son often stops at the one in Grapevine with coworkers when he gets off work late at night. I'll have to ask him if there is a sign on their door the next time he goes there.

Sorry for the semi-thread hijack, but when did we win the Taco C battle? I've avoided that place like the plague when I noticed their 30.06 sign at the location close to my house...

As for BWW, I was just at that Plano location a weekend or so ago, carrying, and didn't notice the non-compliant sign. Where exactly was it?

OH NO...I think I have eaten there for lunch a few times. What location??? But I do have to say that I normally just blow off signs like that...I figure they aren't speaking to me with them. I probably didn't notice it. Anyway...what is the location of it? Since the guy is a jerk, I will put it on our place to avoid list at the office.

One thing I would like to mention. Since his sign is non-compliant, maybe just letting it go would be a good move. It would be counter productive to bring the non-compliant sign to their attention and then have their legal eagles make it compliant as a reward.

First off, "good" is not a description I would use for BW3 under any circumstances. So maybe this is better for you in the long run.

Secondly, I have to agree with the other posters. You just ignore the no-guns signs. They aren't for you, and why should you even care? Unless it's a valid 30.06 you are making way too big of a deal about this.

They have a lot of guys drinking and watching sports on the premises, and I bet they figure some of them carry unlawfully. If those signs deter them from bringing in their guns, I'm all for it.

The problem for Nitrogen is that he has now received verbal notice and therefore cannot carry, at least at that location.

Be careful what you do, you may get unintended results.... Verbal Notice

I say notify them they are not in compliance, then they must make a decision, either pull down the non-compliant sign, or put up compliant one(s) which leads to expense, in obtaining the sign and puttging it up, and a really ugly sign right out in front of the public.

If they are trying to prevent CHL holders from entering, then they must use the proper signage, and if they are not then there should be no signs at all, the "they are doing it to satisfy the anti-gun crowd and they know it doesn't mean anything" arguement doesn't hold any water with me, you can't know that with any certainty.

You also can't know that the cop that shows up when someone spots you printing won't arrest you because he's not familiar enough with the law, causing you the stress and expense of the trip downtown and trying to recover your confiscated property. That's too big a can of worms to open.

I used to be of the "It's not compliant, so I ignore it." crowd, but I have talked to enough LEOs that thought that ANY sign was valid, and my conversation with DPS where the young lady told me (relating to a file card size 30.06 sign and others that were not in compliance) that she would welcome me as a test case, but that they saw any sign the approached the correct wording, no matter what the size, as at least an effort and they would enforce.

So I card them and I leave, and write letters to their corporate, and try to get my legislators to introduce a bill to put teeth in the law as it relates to signage.

From the business view-

1. no sign- sockermoms(M/F) unhappy.
2. 30.06 sign- CHL unhappy.
3. "no guns" - all happy ($$$)

--Consider that maybe We have a 'secret friends' going for #3 on purpose.--(intentional or not!)

-let sleeping dogs lie.
-"choose wisely grasshopper" as the wise man said!

-(then send the letters!!!)

I don't worry about gunbuster signs, "No Guns" and the like, but I agree with Jim on "close to compliant". I hear a lot of argument about "it's not compliant because it is white letters on glass". I think you will take a ride on that one and likely be convicted. If the letters are 3/4", the same: ride and convicted. If it is close, I take it as compliant.

I disagree with you Jim on notification. If they are clearly non-compliant, why tell them? Right, wrong, otherwise, it is just my view ;-)

I was never given verbal notice not to carry.
