Timers?

As instructors, do you use an actual timer or do you just wing it with a whistle and a watch? Im wanting to use a timer, but Im not finding anything that looks like its manually programmable or its a chronograph. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Steve

Don't try to make this more difficult on your self than it is. Its not a swimming competition. Analog watch with a second hand works fine. Cheap digital watch if you want to get more fancy. If you can count one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, that works also.

Ok, whistle and a watch then.

+1 on what Linda said. Without multiple instructors on the line, you'll probably have far more important things to be watching than a watch.

Very true. One of the reasons I wanted a decent countdown timer was for the loud audible beep that lets the shooters know when to start and when to stop.

What works for us is a $6.00 Wally World "travel size" alarm clock with a second hand. Mounted at the very top of partition that separates the shooting stalls.

Toughest part is getting the "hair trigger" for the noisemaker set just right for that 1 shot in 2 seconds drill. ;-)

I count. You will be amazed how close you can come with a little practice. ;-)

me, too. If it's close enough for the DPS, it's close enough for me. It's not hard to be right on.

Just about all of the shot timers will let you set a "par time" which is what you would use. Check out CED (Competitive Edge Dynamics).
