When 911 doesn't pick up

A Parker County woman woke up to realize that an intruder was in her apartment. She called 911; and according to her account no one answered.

She then called her adult daughter. Daughter and son-in-law showed up packing and held the burglar until the police arrived.

Photo with absolutely fabulous display of firearms safety.

Was the photographer nuts?

I'm not a big fan of videos, but this one is worth watching. Something is wrong with the cellular 911 system in that area.

On a somewhat related note, a handful of friends and myself have had to call Dallas 911 on our cell phones before and repeatedly gotten busy signals...

Another one of the many reasons I decided to carry.

you know someone might have some more pressing problems that your simple 911 emergency. Why not just wait until the police have the time.

Did anyone else notice the Guns in America link on the page? The information is 6 or more years outdated for most states.

I didn't notice until you pointed it out. That looks like recycled information from the Bradys.

The brief description of Texas CHL law was misleading. It said that "practically all non-felons" can get a CHL. We know that is not the case.

Unfortunately, in the Houston area, 911 failures aren't as uncommon as you'd like to believe--even from land-line phones. I perform the final testing and training for the phone systems my company installs throughout the Houston metro area--one of these tests is always a (pre-scheduled) call to 911. The number of times I've gotten a busy signal or a "Your call is important to us, and will be answered in the order in which it was received" message is disturbing--especially since we are only allowed to schedule these test calls during "non-peak" times.

Not to start the fear-mongering, let me say that because of my job functions, I call 911 probably more than any other single individual I know of (several times a week during peak construction periods for us) and have only had busy/no immediate answer 3-4% of my calls....that being said, a 1911 on my hip is more comforting than 911 on my speed dial...

Just something to think about...when seconds count, "your call is very important to us, and will be answered in the order in which it was received...."

Amen to that. Did anyone hear that crazy moron screamin' in the back ground after the woman told 911 she was gonna kill him if he didn't behave?! What a nut.

I tried to call 911 here about a month and a half ago.. Tried 5 times, and each time I got a busy signal. My sister however was able to get through to them on a land line.. My cell phone was working, right after calling 911 I called my dad on his cell phone and it went right through..

Could you imagine being unarmed, waking up to find a BG in your house, and not being able to get a hold of 911? Scary to say the least.

I didnt read the story because I read it on a local news site, but "our" version of it said this happened over a month ago..

Wow, what a flashback. I kept hearing my mother's voice saying the same thing from when I was a teenager. :smilelol5:
