Good luck. I have been looking for a used Marlin 1895 CW .45-Gov for about a year. A new weapon can be aquired at Carter Country in Houston, Texas. I currently reload .45-70 Gov for a Sharps 1873. I love this old round....but brass is hard to find. (The bunker in Iowa has about 600 brass and with lead bullets. 10 boxes of manufatured rounds)
good luck.

That's not too encouraging. I was just looking to start reloading and wanted to reload and shoot a large caliber rifle. I happened upon the 45-70 and thought that would fit the bill. I've only found one used Marlin and I could purchase a new one for about sixty bucks more than the asking price. I've been looking at reloading equipment and reading everything I could find on the net regarding the different brands. Haven't even come close to checking on the actual components. May have to rethink this if casings, bullets, and such are hard to come by.......

Pay attention when you start reloading for it. My books list either 2 or 3 power levels for a 45-70 (depending upon which book); it's my Hornady book w/ 3 levels, your Marlin is the middle level. Stout Ruger #1 loads would be a bit much for the Marlin (not that the Marlin is weak, just that the Ruger is amazingly strong).
I used to load some for a co-worker... range time w/ some of them can be uh fun.
