Of course, they wouldn't let me buy ammo at the same time as the gun. I was walked to the door with the gun held by a manager, and told not to come back in the store (I guess for the day).





It came with a cheapie silver 4x20 scope which I promptly took off.

They always insist that firearms are carried outside by a manager. It's an asenine policy that has caused me at least one delay waiting for a manager to appear.

However, once you've secured the firearm in your vehicle, you could have immediately returned to the store and purchased ammo.

I have admired my friend's 60 for a long time. If I come across a SS/laminated one, I won't pass it by.

The plain jane black one I got ran me right at $100

The thing is incredibly accurate right out of the box...and is one HECK of a fun plinker!

I would like to ask a question, if you don't mind. As I mentioned, I have been wanting one for some time and had considered Walmart as an option.

From the Marlin website, the SS with the grey/black laminate is the 60SS. This is the one I want.

You will never regret your choice. I prefer the model 60 over the 10/22.

I've noticed that when Marlin makes guns for the chain stores, they sometimes have a different model number than what is sent to gun shops. I noticed that when I was looking for a 30-30 a couple years ago. I kept finding rifles with strange model numbers. I later found out that the strangely numbered rifles were originally sold by Sears or K-Mart or the like.

I don't remember the model numbers but the K-Mart/Wall-Mart rifles were identical to the standard models but the stock wasn't as nice. It had blemishes or was of an inferior wood. Other than that, the rifle was identical to the gun store model. It was somewhat like a "B-Stock" version.

I'm sorry but I don't remember the model numbers from that old search I did but I'm sure that is the same reason you're seeing different model numbers here.

The Model 60 has been around since 1960. It was the replacement for the model 99. These were sold at a lot of chain stores like Montgomery Ward, Sears, Otasco, Western Auto, and others. Marlin branded their guns with various other names like Glenfield which was made for Otasco, Revelation for Western Auto. Westernfield branding was Monkey Wards and Ted Williams brand was Sears. There may have been some other branding done too, but can't remember. (Old age setting in. LOL) As a kid growing up in Missouri, these stores were our place to buy guns.

I had a Marlin Revelation Model 60. Still have a Westernfield .410 bolt action 3 shot that was my first shotgun and my Dad's Savage Model 340 .30-.30 bolt action that was bought for him in 1955 at Otasco.

I have a Marlin 60 from the 1980s that has seen less than 20 round through it.
I do like the feel and length of it much better than the 10/22.

When the SS version came out, I thought I had to have it. But the ones I looked at had a shorter barrel that took away a lot of the appeal.
I went to Cabelas when they advertised them for $179.95, but ended up not buying for that reason.
Is there a version with the old longer barrel length?

From what I've seen at Cabela's, they walk you to the door with the gun as well. I think you can buy your ammo in the same purchase, though.

Yes, cabelas does the "Walk of Shame" routine.
CTD or any real gun store does not.

I don't think so. When they shortened the magazine tube to hold less ammo they shortened the barrel too.
