Not questioning any part of it, but is there a protocol for this? I'd just as quickly knee both of them in the gut, but I'm curious if there is some international 'manners' protocol.

Presidents don't bow to kings. This may be part of Obama's plan to 'reach out' to the Muslim world. Muslim press will see this as exemplary of Obama's dhimmitude and they're gonna have a field day with it. I view it as Step 1 in us raising the white flag in the GWOT.

Heads of State are equals. No Bowing, please.

Well, they are trying to reverse the Constitution as far as I can tell...so, who knows?

Oh I agree...I just wasn't sure if there was some written rule on etiquette. This pic almost looks like he is kissing his hand...

I'm not sure he was bowing. I think he dropped the iPod he was presenting the King as a gift and was bending over to pick it up. :evil2:

Bowing to a monarch is unlike bowing to, with, or among the Japanese which is basically the equivalent of a handshake.

This is from "Miss Manners guide for the turn of the millennium"
American protocol. pg. 697

"One does not bow or curtsy to a foreign monarch because the gesture symbolizes recognition of his/her power over their subjects. One never the less treats him/her with respect."

Also found this interesting from the same page.

"You do not have to sing the national anthem of another country but standing symbolizes respect. Singing demonstrates allegiance....."

So saith Miss Manners. :???:

Years ago we had an Admiral's inspection aboard our ship. I was Petty Officer in Charge of the Honor Guard, which meant I carried a sidearm, and I had that puppy polished up real pretty, as well as a nice new bright white lanyard to go with the bright white holster cover.

As I drew my 1911 to do Inspection Arms, which I had carefully practiced and had down to a flawless routine, the lanyard's clip broke off and fell on the deck at my feet. "Ding, Ding, Doink."

The Admiral bent over and retrieved the parts for me while I finished my routine, I never skipped a beat, but he missed everything because my finishing my part was the signal for the guy next to me to start inspection with his Garand, and we had that worked out to a very un Navy like rolling ripple.

Of course maybe bambam is just following GHW Bush's established international protocol and puking on the king's leg.

:iagree: I agree, it is a disgrace to see an American president bowing to this guy. I can't believe it...but I see it. Whats next?? ...never mind, I don't want to know.
