I was hit from behind while driving today and had my carry weapon in my backpack. I never said a word to any fire or police personel
present until the investigating officer, a female, asked me for my license and Insurance. I retrieved both my piggy-backed licenses out of my wallet and fanned them so she would see them both. I quietly (as others were near) told her "not to alarm anyone but I do have an item in my backpack".
She looked at the backpack next to me on my car for a second, quietly said "No Problem", handed back my CHL and went on with her investigation.
I hope not to have any more incidents where I have to ID myself while carrying for a while. but if I do, I hope it goes as well as it did with the HPD officer today. WELL DONE HPD!

I've posted this before. I was stopped in Dallas suburb a year ago for speeding. I presented my CHL and DL when the officer approached. He looked at the CHL, smiled as he handed it back and said "you're not going to shoot me, are you?', then went to his car and wrote me a speeding ticket. He was in a lot better mood than I was then!

There is quite a good history, and understanding that HPD has with CHL'ers...The ones working the street are accepting of the idea...The "No problem" response is par for the course...

I've had a lot of communication with HPD over the last year regarding some community organizing and I have only positive comments about their professionalism and courtesy. IMHO, they want to do their job and if you're respectful to them you will receive the same in return.

good story. hope all came out well with the accident sorry it happen...

since i got my CHL i have been trying to get pulled over. (i know stupid)
but i know almost every single cop. i have been pulled over twice and they walk up just to say hi and see what i am up to

I was pulled over for speeding by the Pearland PD about two weeks ago and, after validating my driver's license, CHL, insurance, inspection & registration, the officer simply told me to "slow it down and have a nice day." I was dumbfounded, given that the officer had previously told me just how much over the speed limit I had been travelling. (I am intentionally omitting the posted vs. actual speeds so as to avoid any unwanted criticism).

A lot can be said about treating an officer with respect and courtesy...

I've been approached by a peace officer...I've lost count how many times (probably round 8 or 9) since getting my CHL and NONE of them have reacted badly. All have been positive.

I k now some folks must be tired of me mentioning it, but from all reports HPD didn't take up witch hunts during Rosenthal's reign of terror. I'm not saying it never happened but there weren't a lot of people arrested by the HPD or Harris County sheriffs Department under the traveling laws of 2005-2007 As far as I can tell in recent years HPD has been well educated in the law, and reports here seem to suggest that HPD has treated CHL holders with the appropriate respect. Maybe its happened but I've never heard of a CHL being disarmed by HPD.

Associating HPD with likes of Chucky is a little unfair, they are two separate agencies, in two independent jurisdictions with independent levels of professionalism.

What probably needs to be established is Pat Lykos's position on the issue...I tried and got (chirping cricket sound effects) from her campaign staff and her personally...And I even asked nicely and with respect for her campaigning for the office...I still do not believe she was the right person for the job...

I actually supported and endorsed her opponent Kelly Seigler for the job...Who was absolutely solid, and outspoken on this particular issue...

I believe respect and courtesy go along way, I have received the "no problem" response a few times here in San Antonio and Helotes. Sorry about the accident, but good to hear your story.
