April 16, 2009 8:00 a.m.

Several threatening signs were found posted on and off campus this morning. The signs found on campus stated “4-16-09 A shooting will occur today and students will die.” Several signs were also found off-campus at the Grove apartment complex stating “4-16-09 10 people will be killed and shot at the grove.” While these messages are disturbing, there have been no other indications of a threat. Classes will continue as scheduled. Police patrols have been increased today. We ask that students, faculty and staff be vigilant and notify University Police immediately if they witness any unusual activity. Any updates will be posted on this site.
Just a heads up if yall are students or know a student. I still came to class, I figure if someone was going to do anything they wouldn't have left a note. I just found out about this and decided to post. I should prob. get back to my astronomy lecture lol.

I really have been nothing but impressed with our campus police force. Especially after seeing them respond to the last incident. They are everywhere today.

as much as I believe in taking personal responsibility for my safety I rarely worry when on campus here.

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings. Someone just wanted a little spotlight.

We just realized that during my Management 370 class. We also realized its hard as hell for 6 guys to lay a ruler on the ground.

update: a sophomore gal from Palestine was the one who wrote the letters.

Apparently the police matched the handwriting on the notes to her handwriting on her dorm lease.

Haha, nice work. Don't they teach them how to cut out letters from magazines over there?

I taught an Awareness class this afternoon. A student from SFA was there. I asked her what her immediate thoughts, emotions were when she heard. Well, this is just a joke, it is silly & wont really happen. :banghead:

I used that to remind them it happened at VT can it happen here.???
I cant believe so many folks still believe some form of "It only happens to the other fellow somewhere else. Never me here. :banghead:

That's how the kids in my astronomy class were when I first learned about it. (I neglected to sign up for campus alerts on my phone.)

There was almost no concern at all and they were joking about it. idk, but the thought of illegally conceal carrying entered my brain, but since I was already at school, no dice. Also since I don't break the law and there were tons of police, etc on campus I wouldn't have anyway.

I was surprised that they weren't checking bags or have people with metal detector wands out.

To WarHawkAVG:
You were right on the money. The 20 year old gal from Palestine, TX who
left the threatening messages had been given 3 extensions on a presentation
that was due in class that day.

The young woman has withdrawn from SFA.

A conviction on the 3rd degree felony (terroristic threat) carries a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years
and a fine of up to $10,000.

Regarding "cameras on campus" comment above: She posted her threats at an off-campus apartment
complex known as "The Grove."
