Do you get stuff flying back at you at the shooting range?

At one of the three ranges I visit, I often get bits of concrete flying back at me. The first time, there was a shooter in Lane 1 and I was in Lane 3 or 4. He must have shot low or something but a small chip of concrete flooring hit me in the neck. It didn't cut deep but it bled. It's been a week and the scar is still visible. Recently, I was in Lane 3 and a shooter was in Lane 4. I was in between shots and something hot landed on my support hand. I had to release my grip to shake it off. I also felt a small sting on the bottom side of my right arm. Upon checking it, I had a small 1/2 inch cut from something. I'm guessing someone shot low again because I found a mangled bullet next to my foot and it had a layer of grey paint on it, just like the floor did. These are the two distinct instances I can remember. There have been many smaller pieces that I can feel on my legs and sometimes I can feel and hear something hitting my eye protection.

How normal is this? I never get this at the two other ranges I visit. Should I avoid this range?

Not normal at all. I hope you're reporting these incidents to range personel

Someone who owns or works at this range posts on here. I sent a PM. Thanks.

I'd say you're experiencing an unusual number, but it does happen.

My wife posted about it in her blog. (Warning: not 10-year-old daughter safe.)

I've never had anything come back and hit me while at the range. During steel matches, sometimes I get bullet fragments coming back from as far as an adjacent _bay_.

I have gotten hit many times, even to the point of drawing blood. I see it as a natural hazard to shooting, and a constant reminder to wear eye protection.

This has been my experience as well.

Once in a while shooting (steel), I'll get some "incoming".

Absolutely! I always turn around when I take my eye protection off to wipe my face.
