After two 9-year-old girls in Hauppauge, New York, had a tiff, the mother of one posted a phony ad for meretricious services on Craigslist. When would-be clients e-mailed her, she gave them the other girl's phone number.

The woman has been charged with aggravated harassment (whatever that means).

I find it amusing when people think that what they do online can have no backscatter in real life.

BTW, Craigslist is a cesspool. The section for this area contains nothing but triple-X advertising and scams.

I've always thought it strange that you can sell sexual favors (illegal) on Craigs List, but selling a firearm (perfectly legal) is verbotten.

Although I don't really think prostitution should be illegal - it still strikes me as odd.

They are afraid of being sued, same as eBay.

Ironically, several "massage" and "escort service" ads on Craigslist have led to rapes and murders. I'm surprised that they haven't been sued for that yet.

BTW, I have heard of people posting ads like, ".357 Magnum Smith and Wesson golf club" or "Remington 1100 fishing rod."

That is one website that I have never clicked on and never will. I have a hard time with the fact that they can get away with the junk people post on there. I admit that I have not seen them but I know several people that have told me and that is enough for me to stay away. It looks like with this "Craigslist killer" guy using the site to set up appointments with women then rob and kill them that someone would sue them out of business.

Oh well, there are lots of thing these days I don't understand.

I once listed a "Springfield Armory Tack Driver" on there and had a few people call me about it.

I posted a "lead accelerator" once that actually never got flagged. Like six weeks later a guy emailed me about it. I had sold the pistol by then and had forgotten abut the head.

Craigslist has announced that they will no longer allow ads for "erotic services":

I got away with selling a Ruger GP100 on that site a couple of years ago under the heading "GP100 For Sale". I've seen many more creative posts since mine, though...

You shouldn't let one section of the site prevent you from using the rest of it. I bought my washer and dryer off an ad from Craigslist - $250 for the pair. There are some great deals there.

Craigslist is just like the Dallas Observer. It's got some great articles and information on things going around the city, but there are the same ads in the Observer that you'll find on Craigslist. Would you prevent the existence of those ads keep you from reading the rest of the publication?

I had to look "meretricious" up. I love this board.

I've bought and sold several firearms on CL.
Currently buying a car from a CL ad.

Can't beat the price, and the volume of ads makes it comparable to ebay for finding almost anything.

If you are a classifieds junkie like me, you haunt CL hourly.

Same here. I also looked up "backscatter". SeamusTX is an excellent wordsmith!

I've sold a boat through craigslist and still scan the job listings. Some of the 'personals' and 'services' sections sound pretty creepy.
