So i almost bought my wife a Taser but didn't (she's the one that's 100% against guns, yay) anyway I was talking to her about it and told her I almost bought one for her but didn't she said good because she doesn't want one because self-defense isn't a high priority for her because she feels safe and if she really was concerned about it she'd take self-defense classes. I told her yeah but the one time it is important to you it's too late but she wasn't listening to my logic... grrr ladies!

YOu should be flattered, it means she feels she can rely on you. However, do you have or hope to have children? At that point she becomes responsible for their protection. She might wish to do everything she can to increase her abilities to handle that responsibiltiy when you are not there.

Excuse me! I hear this type of comment from men as well and certainly not from all Ladies or my handgun classes wouldn't be full.

In case CrimsonSoul ever gets his bride to see the light, what firearm
would you recommend that she start with? A .22 so it wouldn't scare
her, or just jump in with a .38, .380, or a 9mm?
What are the popular handguns with the ladies you know?

Gosh those questions can and have been answered in many different ways.
First for CrimsonSoul, if his lady is truly afraid of guns I would suggest an outdoor range as the noise isn't as bad as an indoor range. And yes I think I would start her with a 22, something like a Ruger. Women that are afraid of guns but choosing to learn about them on their own I don't think starting caliber matters that much. Women that are afraid but learning about them because of family or peer pressure I think it's important to start them with a 22. It keeps the noise and recoil manageable. DON"T forget the ear plugs
and muffs!
Generally there are two things that women don't like about guns: they can kill someone and they are very noisy! The first one is hard wired in to women by God. He made women to nurture life not destroy it. The second one is our nature, we like peace and quiet.
Popular handguns with women? I don't think there is any clear winner. I see Bersas in all calibers, 1911s all sizes, M&Ps all sizes, XDs, occasional Glock (not so many any more), Browning Buckmarks and Hi-powers, and Sigs. I never know what the women will show up with. Running classes is a great and continuing education for me as to gun types. I have even seen some I don't have!

Thanks for the reply. The idea about the outdoor range sounded good.
The idea of a woman with a 1911 gave me pause - I guess that's why some
women carry large purses.
Woman like peace and quiet? Ask their husbands when they haven't completed
their "honey dew" lists!! Or the ever-popular "moving furniture for no good reason'
game needs to be played.
Over and out.

There is a difference between a VERY loud gun report and communicating with a deaf husband!
