In Louisiana they follow Napoleon Bonaparte law or something like that,
so it is hard to tell exactly where this stands.

Bill to allow concealed guns on college campuses moves forward

Jay Vise Reporting

A proposed law that would allow holders of concealed-carry permits to bring their weapons onto college campuses passed by a 9-6 vote in committee.

The measure by Representative Ernest Wooten is indented as a means to prevent massacres such as the one on the campus of Virginia Tech two years ago.

"If you had one guy like you had at Virginia Tech, and you had one guy sitting there with sixteen rounds, he might have prevented that," Wooten said.

Higher Education Commissioner Sally Clausen spoke out against the proposal.

"Guns and campuses simply do not mix," Clausen said. "This is not a 2nd Amendment right; this is a safety issue."

However, the committed agreed with Wooten, and the vote in favor of passage was 9-6.

If it becomes law, the bill will allow holders of concealed firearm permits to have their weapons on campuses, areas that are now so-called "gun free zones.''

Wooton sponsored a similar bill last year, but pulled it in the face of heavy opposition from officials at LSU and other universities.

She is right, but for the wrong reason. Being able to protect yourself is a safety issue.
