I don't remember where, but I think it was here in Texas.
People were in the parking lot offering more money for the guns than what they could be turned in for inside. The police started meeting people as they came into the parking lot, asking if they had guns to turn in, and if so escorted them into the building where they could be turned in to proper authorities.

yeah, i'm fairly sure the police - doing the bidding of their politically motived superiors - would find SOME REASON (legit or not) to make sure they maintain their gun buying monopoly.

you're right though, it is an interesting thought.

Maybe advertise your own "gun buyback" to occur same day and time as police buy back but do it on your private property so cops can't hassle you. Advertise that you'll pay double what the cops are offering.

The people who no longer wanted their guns still get to sell them, and make more than they would have, then they could be resold for amounts closer to their actual value. Pieces of junk could be directed inside where they could still get the $50.00 they came for. Doesn't seem right that the police should have a monopoly on purchasing unwanted guns from the public!

Great idea. I like it.

Hold an event. Sort of like a gun show, but the opposite. The buyers would sit at tables and the sellers would parade their firearms around. You would have to set a minimum price to ensure that you are offering more than the government but the parade could run in a highest to lowest buyer format.

Somewhere in that transaction there would have to be an illegal gun. You can be sure the Law would check all that out & someone would be in BIG toruble for possession of stolen property or too shot barrel, or maybe even full auto w/o permit,

They would get you for something.

But if the "buyer" is up to snuff on his firearms laws, he could respectfully decline to purchase said weapons, explain why, and direct the offending owner to the police operated buy back program. No? If you also posted signs and mentioned in your advertising that "All state, federal and local firearms laws apply" then those persons with illegal weapons would likely not even show up. No? IDK, just thoughts, as even though I think it's a great idea, I don't think it would work, since people who are trying to "get rid of" firearms for whatever reason, will probably be the type that thinks civilians shouldn't own guns anyway, and would rather give them away free to the cops than sell them to lawful gun owners.

Just follow the same process as pawn shops, dealers buying at gun shows, dealers taking trade-ins at their store, etc.
