Kahr P380

I am looking for a "pocket pistol". I just about bought a Ruger LCP at Academy a week or so ago. I held off since there was no ammo to go with it. Basically I want a 380 or above caliber that is smaller than the Glock 27 I carry now. I cant really find any 9mm that are substantially smaller than the G27. The Kahr cw9? may work but like the Kahr P380 better. I have read good things about the P380.
Except the price and availability.
Is the Kahr P380 worth double the Ruger LCP price?
I am leaning toward the Ruger since a lot of people on this forum have them and like them. AND I can buy plenty of ammo and upgrades to the grip and magazines, for the price difference.

I think most would agree that .380 is pretty difficult to find these days. You would get many positive responses to both the Ruger LCP and the Kahr line of pocket pistols.

The Kahr PM9 is not much larger than the P380, and carries 6+1 (standard flush magazine) capacity. Plus, finding 9mm is a lot easier than finding .380. Just my 2c.

I have had good luck finding 380 ammo at Academy stores in recent weeks. Last week I called around all the local (Austin Area) stores and found one that had some. Fortunately it was still there by the time I got to the other side of town, as they will not hold it for you.

You should also look at Keltec P3AT.
Same gun as LCP for less money.
Some prefer them.

JackRR,

If you have the money I think you will be happy with your choice. I like Kahrs. They are very nice and shoot well.

Hmmmmmmmm. I might agree on that one. (But not if comparing size of PM-9 to the LCP.) And yep, seveal advantages to the 9mm round over .380 ...

The Kahr PM9 is considerably larger & heavier (14 ounces vs 10 - w/o magazines, 19 ounces vs 12 - loaded condition 1)than the .380:

Uhh, I think you have that backwards. The .380 is smaller. I have seen it in person. Looks like a baby PM. :thumbs2:

Already edited my backwards post.

For the weights above, I weighed my PM9...and then my Ruger LCP which is about 1/2 ounce lighter than the Kahr 380.

Keltec P11 (9mm) is small and capable.

Here's a page with some comparison pictures to the Glock 27: http://www.mouseguns.com/myglock/myglock.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yeah that's about 2x the size of a P3AT, LCP or Kahr P380.

Those are handy little guns, for sure. Being able to fit 13 rounds of 9mm into such a small package is indeed nice. But it's not nearly in the size and concealment class of these little .380 guns.

You might also look at the Kel-Tec PF-9 as a less expensive alternate to the Kahr PM-9. I can pocket carry it with the right jeans.

I'm going to repeat my Kahr mantra until I'm blue in the face ... :grumble

"Never again. Never again. Never again ... "

Own an LCP. Like it. Owned a Kahr PM40. Never again.

Well while you're looking for a less-expensive alternative to the PM9, a CW9 is the obvious choice. It's pretty much the same dimensions as a PF-9 but, of course, it's a Kahr, complete with a much better feeling of quality, overall fit and finish, and the trigger is worlds better. $50-100 price difference.

I really like my CW9 but of course it's back at Kahr right now. Seems 500 rounds was the limit. It never was 100% right from the beginning.
