Anti-crime unit? What does the rest of the department do?

Both of these technologies could be great for criminals; swipe a cop's gun and none of the others will shoot at you, get a tracking receiver and you've got a crook's dream machine.

So, what if a police weapon is stolen? Is the thief protected from being shot by officers if he carries the stolen gun?

Since a cop's Sam Brown is now filled with gear anyway, will the cops
now have to have a trailer hitch on their gunbelt in order to carry a
device to read the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips on the
other cops' guns?

Plus - What happens when you get LEO's from different depts at the same
crime scene? The integration efforts on LEO and FIre Dept frequencies
has resulted in bad communications during 9/11.

Will crooks somehow be able to get the police codes and then clone their
own guns to match the police RFID's?

OH yeah - the "anti-crime units"??? Do they have some police officers
that are the "pro-crime units?"

The guns might as well talk to each other. It doesn't seem like this particular officer was able to talk to or identify the guy he was going to shoot. This idea seems to want to remove the most important of all weapons from those who are supposed to have the most training. Their minds. It seems to me the fault was with this officer for not identifying his target. He didn't know anything more about this guy than he had a gun. Did this officer come from the Milwaukee PD? Or was he from that University who's top cop said his officers would shoot first and ask questions later if they saw someone with a gun on their campus?

Interesting that Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is run by the U.S. Department of Energy. It sounds like federal grant money is involved here.

If the cops up there won't talk to each other, maybe having the guns talk to each other is the best they can do.

This is really crazy. It sounds to me like just an excuse for poor training techniques...how about identify your target before opening fire on him, not shoot first and ask questions later. Besides if they have this fancy gizmo that talks to something on the officers uniform or gun, how would that stop them from shooting the officer that just got off duty and changed into his street clothes with his personal carry weapon.

Nothing but an excuse and a bunch of double talk...IMO
