It would be great to have a Quiz, and/or FAQ, or even case studdies about the TX CHL related laws and self-denfense laws. Such thread will keep our knowledge of current satutes and rules of conducts fresh. Also, I would add that ethics and ettiquete of carrying should be emphasised too.

Is this a good idea? can it be done?

As far as practice quiz goes, I haven't found one. But I think it's a GREAT idea.
In the Texas Concealed Handgun Laws and selected Statutes, there's 9 pages of FAQ's that are very informative. You can look at it on the DPS website:

That's going to be the handout booklet when you go to take your class. That's what came in the DPS packet I received when I applied online.

In the packet came instructions and affidavits. One of the affidavits is called Knowledge of Laws Affidavit, which you have to sign and have and notarized:
"I have read and understand each provision of Chapter 411, Subchapter H, Texas Government
Code. I have read and understand Chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code as it relates to the use of deadly force by the citizens of the State of Texas with regard to justification, protection of persons, protection of property, and law enforcement. I have also read and understand Section 56.035 of the Texas Penal Code regarding the unlawful carrying of a handgun by a license holder."

Sooooo from that, I gather that those sections will be covered really well on the test.
1.) Chapter 411, Subchapter H, Texas Government Code.
2.) Chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code
3.) Section 56.035 of the Texas Penal Code

I've found by just reading through the instructions and affidavits I've learned a lot. And combining that with the wealth of knowledge I've gained here on this forum, I'm finding that I actually understand what's being said here.

Once a person gets the "language" of Texas law down it is not difficult to understand. Of course understanding that we have to read the entire section or whatnot helps.

As far as a practice exam I would say no. It is a good idea but the information is available before a person ever enters the class. As it is, it is necessary to read everything and that is what we need to do in my mind. I read the handbook three times and then went back over different places in the book. By the time I got to the class I knew what was being taught but was better able to know what was going to be on the test and understand more what was emphasized by DPS. We need to know what laws are added each session but some new people will rely on a sample test and not study or pay proper attention in the class if they think they know what they need to pass. It is better that a person has to seek the information because it helps them remember it and gives them more of an appreciation for the complexities and untaught parts of CHL in general. If I wouldn't have spent time here and other places I would not have gathered those small but important points I have. It put me in the "mode" of learning and fellowshipping instead of just doing enough to pass the test and nothing more. Just my opinion.

i'm very "visual"....most good books are made onto movies. i wonder who they'll get to play the bad guy .
