A Houston couple sleeping in their apartment at 5810 Fondren early Sunday morning awoke to gunfire. When they got up, two men ran out of their apartment. They found a dead man who had been shot several times in their bathroom. Reports about whether they knew the man are inconsistent.

Sounds a little shaky to me, that just doesn't quite add up...

No connection to the apt. he was found dead in???

Theory: BG #1 stumbled in the dark with his finger on the trigger and launched one into BG#2. BG #1 was so surprised by the first ND he inadvertently triggered off another one or two. (I always read "multiple gunshots" in an article, especially a first report, as "no one has any idea how many shots.") Survivors exit stage left. I remember a couple years ago a cop in a school restroom in San Antonio triggered off two NDs in a row.

Alt Theory: The BGs picked a really bad time to have an argument, and someone lost.

p.s. At one of the article sources, there is a sidebar link "Man shot in sportsbar bathroom." Apparently bathrooms are good places to get shot.

That's a good theory. The dead guy must have had his wallet in his pocket, because they ID'ed him immediately.

I think most people being awakened by gunfire would have a hard time telling how many shots were fired, and witnesses rarely agree on things like that.

The most acceptable answer to a LEO in response to "How many shots were fired?" being asked of you after a nighttime breakin in your home should be:

"I'm not sure, let me see how many are left in my magazine"

Or, "Let's retrace my steps and count the empty mags."

Very strange, very strange indeed. I can't think of a better theory that the ones above, so I'll just agree with ya'll. :headscratch
