CHL background check vs NICS check

Just picked up my S&W Mod. 60 after I was delayed for a day and a half by NICS. I guess it could have been for any number of reasons. I have been delayed more often than not.
This time I bet is was because they have an inquiry from Texas DPS on me because of my CHL application.
Would it be reasonable to assume that if the FBI can OK me to buy a gun, Texas DPS can OK me to carry it?

No. There are addittional factors that would allow you to buy a gun but not get a CHL. Those that come immediately to mind are defsulted student loans or taxes. both of those could be a bar to a CHL but not to gun purchase.
As far as the NICS check delay, that is most often caused by someone with the same or similar name having a disqualifying factor. When you get your CHL that problim will go away, in the meantime providing your SSN is optional on the NICS form, but can somtimes avoid delays if you provide it.

Contrary to the speculation of armchair commandos and other naysayers, having inquiries from other agencies will seldom cause a delay. The FBI card sent in states that the purpose is for a CHL background check.
The FBI simply pulls up an NCIC report. Delays can result if you have a name in common with someone with a criminal history or other prohibitor, or if some other piece of information matches up.
You can also get delayed if their computer system goes down or is down.
As far as your assumption, that would not be a good assumption. The DPS CHL background is more thorough, and you can be denied for things that would not keep you from purchasing a handgun.

Thanks, guys. I'm just getting antsy with all this wait. I'm confident there is nothing in my background that would disqualify me.
