The above link is a longish page which explains Mexican law as it relates to guns.
Recently I heard a radio piece about this, but could not find it so that I could post the
link.
There is only 1 legal gun store in the entire country of Mexico. It is run by the Mexican
military and is located in a building in Mexico City, DF (Districto Federal, somewhat akin
to our own D.C.).
Any Mexican citizen lucky enough to be awarded the right to buy a gun must travel to Mexico
City to buy his gun. The only calibers of handguns available are from .22 up to .38 Special/.380's.
9mm & higher are considered to be military guns and are not available to non-military.
The laws are commonly ignored by richer Mexicans, who buy 9's, .45's, or FN 5.7's.
The Mexican death squads like the FN 5-7's because their 5.7 x 28 MM bullets will reliably
pierce non-armored automobiles.
I wonder if a Mexican citizen who jumps through all the hoops, can afford the trip to Mexico
City, and can afford to buy a weapon - Do you think he goes on a death squad's list for when
he returns to his hometown?
Mexico has "1" legal gun store. .22's to .38/.380 only.

"In fact, Mexican officials say that as much as 90 percent of the illegal weapons they seize are of U.S. origin. "
I thought that rumor had already been dismissed by Stratfor??
Interesting article....disturbing but interesting. As I see the burden should be on Mexican officials to stem the flood of illicit arms. As stated in prior articles earlier, the flow of guns from America is not NEAR the amount they claim.

Would be interesting to know what a few pistols would cost in that only gun store in Mexico.
How much for a .380? And what brand/model?
How much for a .38 Special Revolver? And what brand/model?

I would hazard to guess that this is NOT a very busy store... After all, EVERYBODY knows that all the guns come from El Norte.

I wonder if the Mexicans are hoarding all the 380 ammo?
