I don't know how we missed this at the time it happened.

Craig Washington is a Houston lawyer who served in the U.S. Congress from 1989 to 1995. On January 1, 2008, two teenagers parked in the parking lot of his law office in downtown Houston. Mr. Washington allegedly confronted them. According to Mr. Washington's version of events, the driver tried to run over him. The teens deny it. Mr. Washington fired three shots into the car. No one was injured. Mr. Washington subsequently was indicted for aggravated assault. Jury selection in his trial was scheduled to begin yesterday.

Mr. Washington and his attorney reached a deal that will result in the charge being dismissed after he serves two years probation and performs 60 hours of community service.

Sweet.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Mr. Washington did not have an A rating from the NRA.

I suppose his congressional retirement is unaffected, as he has not been found guilty of anything.

As far as I know, retired congressmen don't get any medical coverage except Medicare when they become eligible. Mr. Washington is 67 years old.
