From Wire Reports. The article below appeared in the 7/21/09 Dallas Morning News.

"Ex-congressman settles.
Houston - A former Houston congressman accused of firing a gun at two teens in a car
last year avoided going to trial Monday after working out a deal with prosecutors that would
result in the charge against him being dropped later.

Craig Washington agreed to settle his case through pretrial diversion, which is similar to
probation but doesn't require him to change his not guilty plea. He must meet conditions
set by the court, including finishing 60 hours of community service and not getting into any trouble
for two years. Washington, 67, said he fired his weapon because he feared the teens were going to run
him over."

Sounds like he got off pretty light. The article did not say how many rounds he fired, where they hit,
and what kind of weapon he used. Or exactly what the charged offense was.
