I was at a shop on Wednesday and dry fired a P238. It felt very nice.

Is this a good pistol or is there any feedback on it?

well...it IS a Sig, built on the Colt Mustang frame, so obviously of very good quality

the rest depends on whether or not you want a JMB style single action pistol... without a grip safety... chambered in .380

I would like to have one myself though

An FFL "Sig Snob" buddy got some in a week or three ago and we ran a box of .380 "gold" thru it. For me, it would take some adjustment, as most of my shots were pushed left at 7 yards. Somewhat larger than an LCP, but recoil much less. And, with single action trigger, much smoother.

I intend to buy one, just because I like mini-1911s. The Sig is a Colt Mustang licensed by Sig. An equivalent Colt Mustang used would sell for several hunder dollars more than the MSRP on the Sig.

But There are lots of reports of failures on new guns - FTF, FTE. And this week Sig recalled a many of them because the thumb safety was off-spec. there had been reports of it walking out of the frame. Sig customer service takes care of the problems quickly and correctly, but it's still an aggravation most would rather avoid.

So, I'm going to wait a bit and let it settle out. I have a Colt Mustang or two to keep me company in the meantime.

IMO there are better choices for a mouse gun for pocket carry. I just can't get past the single action cocked & locked being carried in my pocket, even though I carry a cocked and locked 1911 on my hip a lot of the time.And if you are going to carry it on your hip in a holster why not carry at least a 9mm?

I think that the Kahr 380 would be a better pocket carry choice and there are a multitude of better choices in larger calibers for hip carry that are only slightly larger or even the same size. I think they are trying to fill a niche that has plenty of other/better options available.

I don't disagree, and I carry a DAO .380 all the time.
What appeals to me about the Colt Mustang or the Sig P238 clone is the SAO with safety.
I would not pocket carry cocked and locked.
I like being able to carry with hammer down on a chambered round, with the safety set. this particular design allows that, unlike a true 1911. I do carry my Mustang like this sometimes, when my choice of clothing allows the extra bulk (yeah, I know).
It's a simple matter to flip the safety off and on inside the pocket, and it is easy to learn to cock the hammer as part of your draw. I'm OK with that. If I know I'm in an area or circumstance that requires a higher level of readiness, I can get there without withdrawing the weapon.

There is a recall on the P238's, I just spoke with Sig and am in the process of sending the 6 I have in inventory back to them. They claim that I will have them back in 5 days. Since they only ship with 1 mag I am also trying to get an additional mag from them for the delay in not being able to sell them. One of the 238's will be transfered into my private stash, I really like the way they feel and shoot and very easy to conceal without the bite of the LCP's. Of course for $200 more than a LCP they should be of a much higher quality, which they are.....

I understand and comply with all forum rules regarding commercial sales on the forum otherwise I would offer special deals to forum members as a thanks for all the great info that has been posted on the various forums. Please understand I will have no problem moving the 238's and was just trying to make a point on the re-call that Sig is not calling a re-call, they are calling it a "Mandatory Safety Upgrade " I just wanted to share this information with forum members who purchase a 238, I know that I would not be very happy purchasing a new handgun and then having to send it back to the factory for repairs.

I got to hold and dry fire a Sig P238 today at McBride's Guns in Austin. Very impressive little gun, reminds me a lot of my old Colt Mustang (though it does have its own unique Sig styling). Trigger was exceptionally smooth and short (compared to other .380s) and price did not seem outrageous for a brand-new model - $595 WITH factory night sites.

Measured it side-by-side with a Ruger LCP and it is definitely larger. But not so much so to give the LCP an overwhelming advantage in concealability. And the P238 is certainly smaller than a Sig P232 and probably a bit smaller (and certainly lighter) than a Walther PPK or one of its many varients.

I think this would be a great little BUG or deep concealment option for someone who prefers a SAO/1911 style battery of arms to a DAO set up like Ruger, Kel Tec, Magnum Research, NAA, and other itty bitty .380s

I'm almost certain it would shoot better than any of those tiny guns - my ol' Colt Mustang certainly did.

Alas, as with all the guns that caught my eye at McBride's today (including a nice-condition used H&K USP .45 compact for $595), this is a gun I WANT but don't NEED right now (my LCP is serving my deep conceal needs just fine right now).

Never mind... I found it.

I've held and played with the P238 and like the gun alot. If I had to buy a small gun it'd be the Sig over an LCP or Kel-Tec.

Same here. And I have a Mustang that I prefer but hardly ever carry.
And I'll probably have to have the P238.
