BEEKMANTOWN — The teen gunman who shot at prowlers near his home is now accused of lying to police after the ordeal.

Justin Boire, 18, helped his teenage neighbor chase away suspected burglars early Thursday morning after the pair spotted two men they believed were trying to break into a vacant Route 22 home.

When Boire and Ryan LaValley ran after the men, one of the suspects hopped into a dark-colored Ford F-150 truck and fled the area.

The other man, described as white, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with blond hair, ran toward a wooded area nearby.

As the chase continued, Boire, carrying LaValley's rifle, fired three shots at the suspected burglar, police said.

When State Police responded to the 12:30 a.m. incident, Boire initially told them there was an exchange of gunfire between him and the suspects.

But during a subsequent interview, police said Friday, Boire changed his account and admitted that the men never displayed weapons or fired at the teens.

The alleged discrepancy has landed Boire a misdemeanor charge of making a false written statement.

He will appear in court Thursday to face the allegations.

Lt. Brent Davison said the new information "changed the scenario greatly."

Police were continuing to investigate the shooting Friday and had yet to locate the suspected burglars, neither of whom were believed to have been injured during the chase.
