The Californian, a newspaper in Salinas, California, published a photo of two boys holding an M4 rifle at a display of police weaponry on National Night Out.

Salinas, like many U.S. cities this summer, has become a virtual free-fire zone.

Outraged citizens wrote and called the paper demanding to know how they could publish a photo of children with a gun. :eek6

The paper defended its position: http://thecalifornian.com/article/20090 ... 80312/1014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(I have to say, I find a SWAT team displaying weapons at National Night Out a little odd. In my town, the police just chat and show off the K-9s).

"Take some ownership and sit your kids down and explain the dangers of guns in the hands of people that don't know what they are doing. I have no problem at all with the picture that everyone is all upset about. Teach don't preach."
An excellent end to the article, and it makes the point to all those sanctimonious feel-gooders who don't have more to do but complain about a fairly benign picture.

A very surprising article from California. There may be a little common sense on the left coast after all.

There are a lot of decent, sensible people in California; but somehow they keep electing mutants.
