1963 - The Great Train Robbery took place in England.
1968 - Richard Nixon received the Republican nomination for president and chose Spiro T. Agnew as his running mate.
1973 - Vice President Spiro T. Agnew denied allegations of bribery and other offenses, and said he would not resign. He resigned two months later.
1974 - President Richard Nixon announced his resignation on nationwide TV. He formally resigned the next day.
