In Harlem (New York City), today, four men tried to rob a business. They pistol-whipped one employee. The 72-year-old owner of the business shot three times with a shotgun, hitting all four robbers. Two robbers did not survive.
Police said the business owner would not be charged.

I'm not totally amazed, she said. It's pretty upsetting. I thought this neighborhood was getting safer.
(said the lady next door who runs a check cashing business).
It is! Because of the likes of the 72 year old business owner who had decided enough is enough, and is doing his part to take back his street!
Any politicians out there getting the message yet??!! Texans and most of the other people in the U.S. has!

When New York police are reasonable and don't charge a man for defending
himself, I am just awestruck that this can happen.
It's like watching a dog walk on just its front 2 legs.
You see it with your own 2 eyes, but it's just not what you would ever expect.
The old man did some awesome scattergun work there.

I've seen quite a few "Castle Doctrine" cases in New York where the homeowner or business owner who defended himself was not charged. Their law is like ours in that respect.
Their attitude about people who carry unlicensed handguns is entirely different.

And here comes the kicker, hot off the press at the NY Times:
A law enforcement official said that the district attorney was considering a possible misdemeanor weapons charge against Mr. Augusto, indicating that he did not have a permit for the shotgun.
True or not, they gotta get it in there to keep Mayor Bloomberg happy.

It's the Rotten Apple. They have to figure out who paid more protection money to "the machine" before they decide if they're going to take the side of the store owner or the robbers.
