In the first six months of 2009, New York City police stopped and frisked more than 273,000 completely innocent people. Even if the subject is clean, his or her personal information is entered into a database.

The number of people searched in this way has increased every year for which statistics are available.

The probable cause for these searches seems to be that the subjects are the same species as a criminal suspect.
