I saw story when I clicked the link about the Twin Peaks waitress.

Residents in Old East Dallas say they are fed up with dogs roaming the streets at night killing their cats. They've heard the killings outside their bedroom windows and watched the dogs trot off. But they don't know what to do.

They can't capture the dogs themselves. They say Animal Control doesn't come out while the dogs are still there. And they say police won't respond if humans aren't in danger.

"I'd just like to get a gun and sit on my front porch and shoot them. I'm just so mad," said Will Olliverson, of Junius Heights. He found his 15-year-old cat dead in his front yard last week, and a veterinarian told him it had been shaken to death by a large animal. He said a neighbor's cat was killed the same day.

erm....they let their animals out at night unattended and complain when others do the same thing? Hmmm I small hypocrite

Maybe they should stop adding to the problem and keep their pets inside at night? Just saying.

You may need to be a little careful doing that.

I guess it really depends on where you live and how safe it is to discharge the firearm. My experience is that cats are usually smart enough to get away by going upward or under.

I do agree that dogs should not be allowed to rome free, but I happen to think cats shouldn't either.

On his own property, in Texas, I think he's allowed to shoot animals for depredation control.

IANAL

Wouldn't that depend on the city laws too? :headscratch

Thinking about it, if the dogs were agressive then the Castle Doctrine would take effect right?

Speaking just for myself, I'm not in city limits. I can shoot in my yard.
I have one cat that goes outside, and she does not leave my yard.
I check for predators before she goes out.
