Hello Representative ********,

I filed for renewal of my concealed hand gun license on (05-04-09 @ 8:08 am) and have yet to receive a renewal. My renewal was received by the State a day or so later and the status has remained in the ''Processing application'' state ever sense.
I understand I am one of hundreds who have not received their renewal.
I never received a renewal notification and my license expired five weeks after I sent the application.
I understand the State has compliance laws that require notification of expiration and a timely return on applications.
My status has not changed since my last license renewal and there is no reason for delay.
Being back logged is not a reasonable excuse because the renewal fee's have increased with the number of applications received and putting on more people is justified.
Could you Please help me/us. I'm being denied my rights because of this delay.

Thank you, *********

The next day 08-24-09

Dear Mr. ************,

Thank you for contacting State Representative ***** ******* in regards to your concealed handgun license (CHL). As a CHL holder myself, I know how important it is for you to have your CHL on hand.

I have sent a request to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) that your application be quickly processed and your license expedited to you. Rep. ******* has been working with DPS in order to resolve the amount of back logs that are still on file. In fact, Rep. ***** recently passed legislation during the 81st legislative session that will help streamline the application process and allow non commissioned officers to do the background checks that are needed so that commissioned officers may continue to patrol the streets in their area. The department has also issued about 50 temporary employees to work on the back logs and help the department get caught up.

I will continue to check with the department until your application is complete and your license has been sent out. Thank you again for contacting Rep. *****. If you have any questions or other concerns, please feel free to contact him again.

Sincerely, ******* *****

You guys may want to contact your representative.

Dear Mr. **********,

You are more than welcome. In fact, I just got off the phone with the Department of Public Safety which informed me that your application is now complete and is being sent to the manufacturing department so that your license may be printed. Although it may still be 2 to 3 weeks before you actually receive your license, you can rest assure that it is on its way.

If for some reason you do not receive your license in about 3 weeks please let me know so I may contact the department again. As always, if you have any questions just let me or Rep. ******** know.

Sincerely, *******

You guys may want to contact your representative.[/size]
As you can see they were prompt, concerned, and informative

Apparently State Reps are in fact doing something about the pile of apps that have been backlogged for counties such as Harris, Brazoria, Galveston and surrounding counties. I called DPS to see were the background check was and was told pending field investigation from Harris County. The rep did suggest contacting my state rep, which I did. The next day I received a phone call from my State Rep's liaison, followed by Texas DPS (CHL Rep) regarding my application, as well as the rest of the region I fall under. According to the DPS agent before they would submit the BG checks to the county office, however recent legislative laws have changed the way BG's are conducted. She stated they now have the ability to run the field investigations locally doing so will streamline the turnaround time for all 90+ Days that have been in Processing App.

She stated that once your status changes from Processing App, to Application Approved, Cert Issued.... this is when the plastic is on the way to your doorsteps. :txflag
