Initial report says he was a CHL holder.

FORT WORTH -- A man suspected of breaking into a south-side business late Wednesday was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after he was shot by an employee with a concealed-carry permit, police said.

Officers at 11:30 p.m. went to Lon Smith Roofing, 904 E. Waggoman St., to investigate a report of a shooting, said Sgt. Pedro Criado, police spokesman.

They soon learned that a company employee, who had the state-issued concealed handgun permit, had responded to an alarm at the business.

When the worker arrived he saw a man in his mid 30s coming out of the business "with some stolen property," Criado said in a news release.

The employee warned the man that he had a weapon and ordered him to stop, Criado said.

"The suspect reportedly charged the employee," Criado said. "The employee shot the suspect with one shot from a .38-caliber handgun."

Police arrested the suspect, who was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in serious condition, Criado said.

The case was still under investigation Thursday, but Criado said it would undergo a routine examination by a Tarrant County grand jury, which will determine if it should go to trial.

Sounds like the shooting was justifiable, as the bg charged the CHL holder. Thanks for posting texxas guy! That's a big roofing company in F.W.

Burglary at night (big deal in Texas), employee responding happened to be CHL and armed. Feared for his life and took appropriate action. :fire

'Nuff said. :thumbs2: :txflag:

Edit: unfortunately, the CHL holder needs additional training in the area of how to fire multiple shots with multiple hits to STOP the threat. ;-)

Apparently he did stop the the threat, Stopping the threat doesn't always mean shooting until the BG is dead. I am guessing that the GG is happy it only took one shot and the guy was stopped, and because he only fired one shot the guy lived. Because the guy lived it is unlikely he will have to face a Grand Jury.

That being said, this may be an example of different tactics with different carry guns. If the the press is correct about the gun being a .38 we might presume that he had 5 rounds in his weapon. He may be a little miserly about wasting shots. Some one with a Glock 17 may have dropped a double tap. From his perspective there easily could have been friends behind him. He also didn't wait until for the LEOs to arrive and took control of the situation until the LEO reenforcement arrived. All in all a good job with positive results.
