Local news stations are reporting that at about 2 AM this morning, four teens invaded a home in San Marcos, which is located about halfway between San Antonio and Austin.

According to the reporter, there were three residents of the home, in an area heavily populated by college students. When one of them heard the disturbance, he picked up his pistol and opened the door to his bedroom, whereupon one of the invaders pointed a weapon at him.

The resident shot three of the perps, killing a 16 year old right there. A second 16-year old died at the hospital, and a third is in the hospital with "serious but non-life-threatening" wounds. A 17 year old ran off, but was soon arrested and is now charged with aggravated robbery.

Between them, the four perps had a handgun and two pellet guns.

At this writing, charges are not anticipated against the resident, and the investigation is continuing. I expect there will be more information forthcoming.

Comment: I hope the resident of the home was not himself involved in any illicit activity - I imagine we'll find out in due course as the investigation proceeds. Right now, based on available information, it sounds like a good shoot - one perp DRT, another expiring soon after, a third wounded, and the fourth in custody and criminally charged, with the intended victim unharmed. If no information surfaces that changes the apparent circumstances, this sounds like the type of case the Castle Doctrine was meant for.
