I do not know what to think about all of these stories. Some of them sound made up (a civilian joined a car chase) others just seem a bit odd. Yet others seem plausible.

I am all for helping out LEOs. But is it really a smart idea?

A couple of LEOs are being attacked by some thugs. You stroll up with your handgun/shotgun. Do the LEOs know you are on their side or are you walking into a situation that could get you shot/arrested?

What do yall think? Any LEOs have any comments?

Toughy....perhaps yelling CHL! CHL! CHL! like off duty police yell OPD in a situation where plain clothes is an issue.

Not pointing the gun at the LEO would also help..but if the LEO decides you are a threat..YOU BETTER listen to what he tells you!

I would help if the situation is right. If someone is in danger, be it an LEO or a stranger, if I can help I will. Does that mean I'll always draw my weapon? No, but that's just me. I'm sure he'd be thankful.

I agree its always a great thing when you are able to help someone.

However, in cases like these where weapons were drawn I am wondering if a LEO would see that as a threat and take you down/out first since you have a weapon?

They are already pumped with adrenaline. They may not see that we are there to help and see us as a threat.
