My parents and grandparents had a few of the very old Singer sewing machines. Not sure when these particular models were made, but Singer started making machines in 1851. Reading on in wikipedia it says that Howe eventually took the Singer Corporation, originally know as I.M. Singer & Co., to court claiming patent enfringments and won. The Singer Corporation ended up giving him a lump sum for machines sold and then $1.15 a machine thereafter.

I've never really thought of it from that point of view. That is a very sobering thought. That raises the question in my mind, what if today was my last day? Am I in good standings with my friends, family, and more importantly God? I hope that we, as a country, never have to go through something like that again, but I also hope that we never foregt about it and that we have the talk with our children and grandchildren about it. My thoughts, like USA1, are always with the victims familys.

Just to tie in yesterdays "Day in History," were the deaths due to inciderary bombs/ballons the last recorded deaths due to enemy violence in the states up until 9/11 or were there others?

Just off the top of my head, there was the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. I'm sure there were other terroristic incidents aside from domestic terrorism, but I don't have time to look them up.
