Senate votes to allow firearms in baggage on Amtrak

The Amtrak appropriations bill was amended to force Amtrak to allow passengers to carry firearms in checked baggage, on terms similar to those in effect for airlines.
The measure passed by a 68-30 vote.
It must still be reconciled with the House version of the bill.
After September 11, 2001, Amtrak restricted items that passengers could carry in checked baggage.
