1835 - Texians repelled Mexican national forces at the battle of Gonzales, often cited as the first battle of the Texas Revolution.
1967 - Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as a Supreme Court justice.

1919 President Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke, which left him partially paralyzed.
1944 The two-month-long Warsaw Uprising was squelched by Nazi troops battling the Polish underground.
1950 The "Peanuts" comic strip, by Charles M. Schultz, first appeared in newspapers.
1958 Guinea proclaimed its independence from France.
1998 Gene Autry, the singing cowboy and former owner of the Anaheim Angels baseball team, died at age 91.

"COME AND TAKE IT" flag came from.

Actually, every day was an eventful day, if you take into account all the Civil War and WW I and II battles, disasters, sports records, births, deaths, etc.
My goal is to highlight critical points in American history, transportation, and communications. Those are just the areas that I am interested in. Google "this day in history" for lists of other events.
